Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial

Ms. Forry, Messrs. Donnelly, Rush, Montigny and Timilty moved that the proposed new text be amended moved that the bill by adding the following section:

“Section XXXX.

Chapter 2 of the General Laws, is hereby amended by adding after section 46, added by chapter 59 of the acts of 2000, the following section:-

Section 47 The Massachusetts Iraq & Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial shall be erected in the Seaport District, in Seaport Square Park, in the City of Boston shall be the official memorial of the Commonwealth to honor all Post 9-11 Veterans of Massachusetts who died while in service to this country in Iraq, Afghanistan and all other operations across the globe and here in the United States. The memorial park will also pay tribute to all veterans of the commonwealth who served post 9-11.

(a) A monitoring committee, to be known as the Iraq & Afghanistan Memorial committee, shall be established consisting of 9 members, 4 of whom shall be appointed by the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Iraq & Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund, Inc.  One of which shall be a Gold Star parent of an individual who served in US military operations in either Iraq or Afghanistan; One of whom shall be appointed by the Governor; One of whom shall be appointed by the President of the Massachusetts Senate; One of whom shall be appointed by Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives; and One of whom shall be appointed by the State’s Secretary of Veterans Services. Each member except the Gold Star parent shall have been a veteran of US military operations in either Iraq or Afghanistan. It shall be the committee’s sole duty to oversee the construction, maintenance, and re-dedications of the memorial and work with its board to complete the mission. Upon completion of the memorial all further duties[1] relative to said memorial shall be the responsibility of the Massachusetts Iraq and Afghanistan Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund, Inc.
