Amendment #1090 to H3400

enhancing tourism at the State House

Mrs. Orrall of Lakeville move to amend the bill by adding the following section:-

“SECTION XX. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, there is hereby established a commission to research and assess opportunities to enhance tourism at the State House. The commission shall examine and determine if there are ways to increase retail sales through the State House bookstore and other gift kiosks. The commission shall consist of: the secretary of the commonwealth or a designee, who shall serve as chair; the commissioner of conservation and recreation or a designee; the secretary of housing and economic development or a designee; 2 members of the house of representatives, 1 of whom shall be appointed by the minority leader; 2 members of the senate, 1 of whom shall be appointed by the minority leader; the superintendent of state buildings or a designee, and 3 persons to be appointed by the governor. The commission shall commence within 2 weeks of the effective date of this act and shall meet at least four times.  Within 12 months of passage of this bill, the Commission shall present a report on its findings and recommendations.".
