Amendment #192 to H3400

Middlesex Sheriff Medical Diversion Program

Mr. Jones of North Reading moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 8910-0107 by inserting after “office” the following:

“ , provided that $100,000 be expended to fund a study to implement a medical diversion program. The program should provide substance abuse education and treatment as well as counseling for addicted individuals. The medical diversion program should be offered as an alternative to incarceration, and be designed to promote recovery through classes, therapy sessions, meetings, and building a support system in the community. The study shall look at staffing and programming requirements as well as eligibility criteria. The study shall also focus on the potential costs savings generated by the program, and the impact on recidivism.”; and in said item by striking out the figure “$66,582,545” and inserting in place thereof the following figure: “$66,682,545”.
