Amendment #221 to H3400

Veterans Training and Employment Program

Representatives Jones of North Reading, Hill of Ipswich, Poirier of North Attleborough, Gifford of Wareham, Frost of Auburn and Smola of Warren move to amend the bill by inserting, in section 2, in line item 1410-0012, at the end thereof the following: -

“; provided further that $500,000 be expended for a veterans training and employment program to subsidize the cost of veterans wages at Massachusetts-based businesses during training periods after they have been honorably discharged from at least 90 days of service. To participate in the program veterans returning from service must contact the department of labor and workforce development one stop career centers to begin the process of finding a qualifying position. After being hired, his or her wages will be subsidized for no more than 12 weeks at no more than $20.00 per hour during the training phase of such employment. Individuals shall only be able to qualify for this program once.”.
