Amendment #353 to H3400

An act that gives instate tuition rates to honorably discharged members of the US military

Mr. Lombardo of Billerica moves to amend the bill by adding the following section:-

“SECTION XX. Section 9 of Chapter 15A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2008 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “tuition”, in line 128, the following words:- ; provided further, that any veteran who: (1) was honorably discharged from the United States armed services after at least 1 year of active service, excluding time spent at a military service academy, (2) designates Massachusetts as the veteran’s intended domicile, (3) moves to Massachusetts for the purpose of establishing residency, and (4) successfully establishes residency in Massachusetts within 1 year of matriculation in a Massachusetts public institution of higher learning shall be considered a Massachusetts resident for the purpose of admission and tuition expenses for any Massachusetts state college, community college, or state university; provided, however, that the failure to meet any of these conditions shall result in the revocation of the discounted tuition rate and the institution of higher learning shall charge the individual for the full cost of tuition.”
