Amendment #779 to H3400

Medication-Assisted Treatment Pilot Program

Representatives Ryan of Boston, Collins of Boston and Hunt of Boston move to amend the bill, in section 2, in item 4512-0200, by striking out the words “extended release naltrexone” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “medication-assisted treatment”; and

in section 70, by striking out the first sentence of the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- “The department of public health, in consultation with the bureau of substance abuse services, shall create a medication-assisted treatment pilot program for individuals with opioid or alcohol addiction being treated in licensed clinical stabilization service programs.”; and

in said section 70, by striking out the second paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:-  Locations selected by the department for the pilot program shall be granted additional funding, as determined by the department, for staff or other needs associated with prescribing and administering extended-release injectable naltrexone, buprenorphine or methadone treatment to patients prior to discharge and, as part of discharge planning, connect such patients with community providers prescribing or dispensing extended-release injectable naltrexone, buprenorphine or methadone and offering substance abuse counseling.
