Amendment #894 to H4200

Protecting Bicyclists in Bike Lanes

Representatives Rogers of Cambridge, Ashe of Longmeadow, Barber of Somerville, Gordon of Bedford, Hecht of Watertown, Khan of Newton, Roy of Franklin and Walsh of Framingham move to amend the bill by adding the following section: “SECTION XXXX. SECTION 1: Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following as Section 4D:

The operator of a motor vehicle shall not stand or park the vehicle upon any on-street path or lane designated by official signs or markings for the use of bicycles, or place the vehicle in such a manner as to interfere with the safety and passage of persons operating bicycles thereon.

The operator of a motor vehicle shall not stand or park the vehicle upon any lane designated by pavement markings for the shared use of motor vehicles and bicycles, or place the vehicle in such a manner as to interfere with the safety and passage of persons operating bicycles thereon.

SECTION 2: Section 5 of Chapter 89 of the General Laws is hereby amended by replacing both references to “sections one to four C” with “sections one to four D”.
