Definitions
Ms. O'Connor Ives moves to amend the bill in section 1, in subsection (a) of proposed section 27, by striking out the definition "Children’s product" and inserting in place thereof the following 4 definitions:-
““Bedding”, any residential bedding material including, but not limited to, a mattress, mattress pad, mattress cover, sheeting, pillow, blanket, comforter, duvet cover, sleeping bag or any other stuffed item intended to be used for reclining or sleeping.
“Carpeting”, residential fabric floor covering, including carpet padding.
“Children’s product”, a consumer product intended, made or marketed for use by children 12 years of age or under.
“Covered product”, bedding, carpeting, children’s product or window treatment.”; and
in said section 1, by striking out, in lines 9 and 10, 69, 70, 75, 78 and 79, and in line 80, the words “residential upholstered furniture or children’s” and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following word:- “covered”; and
in said section 1, by striking out, in line 11, the words “ use in” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “or outdoor use in or at”; and
in said section 1, in subsection (a) of proposed section 27, by adding the following definition:-
“Window treatment”, residential curtain materials, blinds or shades.”; and
in said section 1, by striking out, in lines 18 and 19, 54 and 55, 58, 61 and 64, the words “children’s product or residential upholstered furniture” and inserting in place thereof, in each instance, the following words:- “covered product”; and
in said section 1, by striking out, in line 21, the words “product or furniture” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “covered product”; and
in said section 1, by inserting after the word “product”, in line 72, the following word:- “covered”; and
by striking out section 2 and inserting in place thereof the following section:-
“SECTION 2. A manufacturer of a covered product as defined in section 27 of chapter 21A of the General Laws that contains a chemical flame retardant prohibited by said section 27 of said chapter 21A shall provide notice to retailers and other persons that sell covered products in the commonwealth of the passage of this act not later than October 3, 2016.”
