Integrated Pest & Crop Management

Representatives Hogan of Stow, Gifford of Wareham, Orrall of Lakeville, McMurtry of Dedham, Provost of Somerville, Campbell of Methuen, Dykema of Holliston, Kocot of Northampton and Garry of Dracut moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 2511-3002, by striking out, in line 1, the following: “For the integrated pest management program” and inserting in place thereof the following: “For research and education on integrated pest and crop management,  including, but not limited to; (i) preventing and mitigating the impacts of pests, climate change, and drought on the agricultural and green industries, (ii) providing assistance in agricultural composting and (iii) managing compliance with food safety and nutrient regulations; provided, that the distribution of the funding shall be done on a competitive basis, with the funding allocated by a committee, hereby established within the department of agricultural resources, that shall consist of the commissioner of the department of agricultural resources or their designee, who shall be the chair, and 8 individuals representing various stakeholder groups to be appointed by said commissioner; and provided, further,  that not less than $440,000 shall be distributed to the University of Massachusetts, of which not more than 10 per cent shall be spent on indirect or administrative costs”;  and in said item by striking out the figures “$58,722” and inserting in place thereof the figures “$498,722”.
