Amendment #1296 to H4400

Municipal Public Safety Grant

Mr. Cabral of New Bedford moves to amend the bill in section 2, item 1599-0026, in line 15, by inserting after "Fund" the following: “; provided further, that $3,350,000 shall be transferred to the executive office of public safety and security for a competitive grant program for public safety and emergency staffing to be administered by that executive office; provided further, that said grants shall be awarded to communities that—

(i)have populations of at least 60,000;

(ii)demonstrate that their police or fire departments had a per capita operating budget of less than $200 in 2010; and

(iii)(1) submitted qualifying applications that were approved by the executive office of public safety and security in fiscal year 2017, or

(2) are gateway municipalities, as defined in section 3A of chapter 23A of the General Laws;

provided further, that each state entity administering said grant funds through this item shall submit a report to the house and senate committees on ways and means not later than February 15, 2019 detailing grants awarded through this item and the criteria used for distribution”; and in said item by striking out the figures "$3,400,000" and inserting in place thereof the figures "$6,750,000".
