Establishing a Firefighter Grant Program

Mr. Parisella of Beverly moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 8324-0000, in line 8, by inserting after the word “option” the following: “provided further, that not less than $500,000 shall be expended for a competitive grant program to be administered by the executive office of public safety and security to aid municipal fire departments and fire districts with the purchasing of equipment or devices to enhance the health, welfare and safety of firefighters; provided further, the grants shall require at least a 100 per cent match in funding from the municipality or district and the executive office of public safety and security shall report annually not later than November 1 to the house and senate committees on ways and means on the program’s activity, including but not limited to, the competitive criteria for the grants, the municipalities or districts participating in the program and details of all expenditures including the amount and type of equipment purchased by each department and district”; and in said item by striking out the figures “$20,304,522” and inserting in place thereof the figures “$20,804,522”.
