Amendment #491 to H4400

Community Broadband Feasibility Study for Economic Development

Representatives Barrett of North Adams and Pignatelli of Lenox move to amend the bill in section 2, in line item 7022-0010 to add the following:

"and provided further, that not less than $150,000 shall be expended for a feasibility study, including cost estimates, to establish an upgraded community-based fiber optic high-speed broadband system serving the communities of Pittsfield, North Adams, Adams, Lenox, Lee, Gt. Barrington, Lanesborough, and Cheshire to allow the communities to make informed decisions about further steps to be taken in providing high-speed broadband service.  These communities are currently underserved by the lack of competition resulting in a serious competitive disadvantage in creating economic growth and development in Berkshire County."
