Adding a Compulsory Death Benefit to Automobile Liability Insurance

Ms. Peisch of Wellesley moves to amend the bill by adding the following section: “SECTION XXXX. Chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following section:-

Section 63. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, in addition to the automobile liability insurance coverage that is compulsory by law, additional coverage of not less than $100,000 shall be available to the estate of any person killed by the negligence of the operator of a motor vehicle regardless of the relationship of the deceased to the owner or driver of the automobile. Said coverage would only be made available to the estates of decedents who at the time of death are survived by a minor child, a spouse, or dependent parents.”
