Amendment #3 to S2509

Maximizing relevant education, training or service completed by an individual as a member of the armed forces

Mr. Walsh of Peabody moves to amend the bill by adding the following sections:

"SECTION X. Section 2A of Chapter 141 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby deleted and replaced as follows:-

In the conduct of examinations they shall make uniform requirements for all towns, which may be revised from time to time, as circumstances require. They shall accept maximum relevant education, training or service completed by an individual as a member of the armed forces, as defined in clause Forty-third of section 7 of Chapter 4, or the United States military reserves, as credit to the examination standing of each applicant. Said examinations shall be sufficiently frequent to give ample opportunity for all applicants to be thoroughly and carefully examined, may be written or in practical work, and may be supervised by one or more of the examiners, but no license shall be granted without the sanction of the examiners.

SECTION X. Section 4 of Chapter 142 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by deleting paragraph 2 and replacing as follows:-

The Bureau shall accept maximum relevant education, training or service completed by an individual as a member of the armed forces, as defined in clause Forty-third of section 7 of Chapter 4, or the United States military reserves, as credit toward the qualifications required to apply to the bureau for a journeyman gasfitter or journeyman plumber fitter license.

SECTION X. Section 240 of Chapter 112 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby deleted and replaced as follows:-

The board shall make such rules as they deem proper for the performance of their duties and governing the qualifications of applicants for examination. The board shall examine each person who applies for a license as a journeyperson sheet metal worker or a master sheet metal worker, as to his practical knowledge of sheet metal work. The board shall hold frequent examinations in the greater Boston area, and at such other convenient locations as it deems necessary. The board shall accept maximum relevant education, training or service completed by an individual as a member of the armed forces, as defined in clause Forty-third of section 7 of Chapter 4, or the United States military reserves, as credit toward the qualifications to apply to the bureau for a journeyperson sheet metal worker license.

SECTION X. Section 82 of Chapter 146 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding:-

The Bureau shall accept maximum relevant education, training or service completed by an individual as a member of the armed forces, as defined in clause Forty-third of section 7 of Chapter 4, or the United States military reserves, as credit toward the qualifications required to apply to the bureau for a journeyman pipefitter license, journeyman refrigeration technician license, or journeyman sprinkler fitter license".
