Termination Fees

Mr. Ross moves that the proposed new draft be amended by inserting at the end thereof the following new section:-

SECTION __. Chapter 25C of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting at the end thereof the following new section:-

Section 9. (a) Subject to federal law and regulation, no provider of telephone, cellular telephone, television, internet, energy, or water services shall impose a fee for termination or early cancellation of a service contract in the event the customer has deceased before the end of such contract.

(b) Every violation of this section shall be punishable by a civil penalty not to exceed one thousand dollars.
