Campaign Finance Study

Mr. Pacheco moved that the amendment be amended by striking out the text and inserting in place thereof the following:-

“moved that the proposed new text be amended by inserting after section 56 the following section:-

SECTION 56A.  The office of campaign and political finance shall conduct a study on the current campaign finance contribution limits in the commonwealth. The study shall include, but not be limited to: (i) examining the impact of maintaining different campaign contributions limits for individuals, political action committees and unions and the impact these differences have on the affected groups; and (ii) the impact that overturning these distinctions, including by judicial decision in the pending case of 1A Auto, Inc. and 126 Self Storage, Inc. v. Michael Sullivan, Director, Office of Campaign and Political Finance may have on campaign finance practices in the commonwealth. The office shall file a report with the clerks of the senate and house of representatives, the chairs of the senate and house committees on ways and means and the joint committee on election laws not later than December 31, 2018.”
