Amendment #1282 to H3800

Medal of Honor Highway

Mr. Straus of Mattapoisett moves to amend the bill by adding the following section:-

SECTION XXX.  (a) The portion of U.S. Highway 20 located within the commonwealth shall be known as the Massachusetts Medal of Honor Highway, honoring the commonwealth’s Medal of Honor recipients.

(b) The Massachusetts department of transportation (“department”) shall install and maintain memorial markers in roadside rest areas and turnouts along U.S. Highway 20 recognizing the commonwealth’s Medal of Honor recipients.

(c) The department shall erect and maintain along U.S. Highway 20 suitable markers or signs designating the highway as the Massachusetts Medal of Honor Highway.

(d) The department may accept moneys from and may enter into agreements with veterans groups to erect and maintain the markers and signs.
