Quality Rating Improvement System

Mr. Madaro of Boston moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 3000-1020, in the first line, by striking out the following: “For quality investments in early education and care, including not less than $4,000,000 to be expended for training, research and grants related to the development of the Massachusetts Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), of which not less than $2,000,000 shall be expended for direct grants to early education and school age programs participating in the Massachusetts QRIS that are actively engaged in efforts to achieve Level 3 and Level 4 in order to improve quality in early education and school age system of care” and inserting in place thereof the following: “For quality investments in early education and care, including not less than $6,500,000 to be expended for training, research and grants related to the development of the Massachusetts Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), of which not less than 2,500,000 to be expended by the Department of Early Education and Care for technical assistance related to healthy eating and physical activity within the Massachusetts Quality Rating Improvement System to be offered to early education and after school providers engaged in QRIS, of which not less than $2,000,000 shall be expended for direct grants to early education and school age programs participating in the Massachusetts QRIS that are actively engaged in efforts to achieve Level 3 and Level 4 in order to improve quality in early education and school age system of care”.
