Sheriffs' salaries

Mr. Lawn of Watertown moves to amend the bill by inserting the following section:

SECTION X. Section 17 of chapter 37 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the second paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:- 354 The sheriffs of the counties of Barnstable, Bristol, Norfolk, Plymouth and Suffolk and of 438 the former counties of Berkshire, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex and 439 Worcester shall each receive a salary equal to 90 per cent of the amount of the annual salary of 440 district attorneys set forth in section 15 of chapter 12. The sheriff of the county of Dukes shall 441 receive a salary equal to 71 per cent of the amount of the annual salary of district attorneys set forth in said section 15 of said chapter 12. The sheriff of the county of Nantucket shall receive a salary equal to 57 per cent of the amount of the annual salary of district attorneys set forth in said section 15 of said chapter 12.
