Recess Study

Ms. Decker of Cambridge moves to amend the bill by adding the following section:

SECTION XX: The division planning and research with needed support from the instructional support division of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shall conduct a survey of all school and district leaders as well as classroom teachers of elementary schools across the Commonwealth to solicit and record the amount of time each school dedicates to recess throughout the school day. For the purposes of this amendment, “elementary school” is defined as any combination of grades consisting of kindergarten through fifth grade. The study shall be concluded and shared with the department and the chairs of the joint committee on public health and the chairs of the joint committee on public health by December 1, 2021.
