Amendment #14 to H4000

School Transportation Reimbursement

Representatives Muratore of Plymouth, LaNatra of Kingston and Xiarhos of Barnstable move to amend the bill by inserting after Section 12 the following two sections:-

“SECTION 12A. Section 16C of chapter 71 of the General Law, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence: The regional school district and any non-regional city or town district with a geographical area that exceeds 95 square miles shall be subject to all laws pertaining to school transportation; and when the regional agreement or school committee policy of the city or town provides for the furnishing of transportation by the regional, city or town school district, the regional, city or town school district shall be obliged to provide transportation for all school children in grades kindergarten through twelve and the commonwealth shall reimburse such district to the full extent of the amounts expended for such transportation, subject to appropriation; provided, however, that no reimbursement for transportation between school and home shall be made on account of any pupil who resides less than one and one-half miles from the school of attendance, measured by a commonly traveled route.

SECTION 12B. Said section 16C of said chapter 71 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by in inserting after the word “regional”, in lines 22 and 24, the following words:- city or town”.
