Amendment #11 to H4441

Elevate Veterans Secretary to a cabinet-level position & grant Governor authority to appoint/remove superintendents & deputy superintendents

Mr. Markey of Dartmouth moves to amend the bill in section 2 by striking out lines 29 to 33, inclusive, and striking out lines 68 to 73, inclusive; and further moves to amend the bill by adding the following 2 sections:-

SECTION XX. Section 17A of chapter 6 of the General Laws is hereby amended by adding after the word “transportation” the following:- “, the secretary of veterans affairs”.

SECTION XX. Section 16 of chapter 6A of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 34 through 37, the following:- “(5) the department of veterans' services under the direction of the secretary of veterans' services, who shall be appointed by the governor, which shall include the Veterans’' Homes in Massachusetts;”.
