Amendment #257 to H4700

MASSGrant and MASSGrant Plus Investments

Ms. Higgins of Leominster moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 7070-0065, by striking out the following: "that funds from this item shall be made available for the MASSGrant or MASSGrant Plus programs in an amount not less than $18,152,000 above the amount made available in fiscal year 2022" and inserting in place thereof the following: "that funds from this item shall be made available for the MASSGrant Plus or MASSGrant programs at community colleges, state universities and the University of Massachusetts in an amount not less than $62,131,040 above fiscal year 2022, to cover not only direct costs but also low-income students’ unmet needs related to total education costs, including paying for basic necessities like food and housing”; and in said item by striking out the figures "$156,020,960" and inserting in place thereof the figures "$200,000,000".
