Including External Collegiate Sports

Mr. O'Connor, Ms. Moran, Messrs. Collins, Timilty and Feeney move that the proposed new text be amended in section 8 by striking the definition of “collegiate sport or athletic event” beginning in line 91 and inserting thereof the following new definition:-

"'Collegiate sport or athletic event', a sport or athletic event offered or sponsored by, or played in connection with, one or more public or private institutions located outside the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that offer educational services beyond the secondary level.”; and

in said section 8 by striking the definition of “sporting event” beginning in line 126 and inserting thereof the following new definition:-

“'Sporting event', a professional sport or athletic event, motor race event or other event authorized by the commission under this chapter; provided, however, that “sporting event” shall not include: (i) electronic sports; or (ii) amateur sports or athletic events including high school and youth sports or athletic events or Olympic sports or athletic events.”
