Amendment #1300 to H3900

Clarifying the existing pipefitting exemption

Mr. Scanlon of North Attleborough moves to amend the bill by adding the following section:

"SECTION XXXX. (a) Section 81 of chapter 146 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official Edition, is hereby amended, in line 58 by inserting after the word "work" the words "and the trenching for, the installation, connection, leveling, and covering of, all public and private exterior underground piping systems not defined as private fire service mains by NFPA 13, section 3.8.1 (2002 Edition)" and, in line 61, by inserting after the words "chapter 142" the following words: ", and the work of heat sealing, fusing, and/or any other manufacturer-recommended bonding of High Density Polyethylene Pipe, and all other exterior underground plastic and/or non-metallic piping, by individuals specifically trained and/or certified, by the manufacturers of the above non-metallic piping, as approved installers".

(b) Section 87 of chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 12, after the word "employed" the following words: "nor shall such provisions apply to such pipefitting performed by a person in the employ of a contractor or subcontractor, retained by one of the above organizations, for any work required on the organization's premises or property".
