Off-duty officers in vehicles

Mr. Cutler of Pembroke moves to amend the bill in section 47, by striking out the words in lines 1403 to 1409 and inserting in place thereof the words “(c) This section shall not apply to: (i) an officer, agent or employee of the commonwealth, any state or the United States; (ii) a member of the military or other service of any state or of the United States; (iii) an officer, agent or employee of a municipality of the commonwealth; (iv) a duly authorized law enforcement officer; provided, however, that a person described in clauses (i) to (iii), inclusive, shall be authorized by a competent authority to carry or possess the weapon so carried or possessed and shall be acting within the scope of the person's official duties."
