Amendment #5 to H2026

Opinion of the Justices

Representatives Jones of North Reading, Ferguson of Holden, Frost of Auburn, Muradian of Grafton, Vieira of Falmouth and Smola of Warren move to amend the order by adding the following proposed rule:

"Rule XXXX. Any time either branch of the general court has a conflicting opinion with a constitutional officer relative to the constitutionality of legislation that presents an important question of law and constitutes a solemn occasion, that branch of the general court shall request an opinion of the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court."
