Expanding Access to Human Speech Audio Books for Dyslexic and Struggling Readers

Mr. Finn of West Springfield moves to amend the bill in section 2, in item 7961-0012, by adding the following: “Provided further that funds be used to expand the resources available to increase literacy and support struggling readers by expanding the availability of audio versions of textbooks and Voice Text format for other books for students with vision impairments, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities that make it difficult to use traditional text. The Secretary of Education shall prioritize placement of human read audiobooks in Title I schools, with a priority for Gateway Districts, provided further, that not later than December 31, 2025, the secretary of education shall provide a summary of the current and planned allocations of funds for each public school and district funded through this item to the joint committee on education and the house and senate committees on ways and means.”; and in said item by striking out the figures “$484,677,484” and inserting in place thereof the figures “485,238,484”.
