Reimbursement for Average Per Pupil Special Education Costs

Mrs. Sullivan-Almeida of Abington moves to amend the bill by adding the following section:

"SECTION XXXX. Section 5A of chapter 71B of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out subsection (c) and inserting in place thereof the following subsection:-

(c) The commonwealth shall reimburse cities, towns and regional school districts for 80 per cent of the costs of providing special education services to any student that exceeds the average per pupil expenditure in the district, as determined by the department of elementary and secondary education; provided, that each city, town or regional school district shall be responsible for the average cost per pupil for each such student."
