Amendment #1611 to H5500

Including teachers from the Springfield Empowerment Zone. in the Massachusetts Teachers’ Retirement System

Mr. Williams of Springfield moves to amend House, No. 5500 by inserting after section 30 the following section: “SECTION 30A. Subsection (i) of section 1J of chapter 69 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding the following 2 sentences:- Teachers employed by the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership, Inc. shall be members of the teachers’ retirement system pursuant to chapter 32 and a teacher’s service for the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership, Inc. shall be creditable service pursuant to said chapter 32. For the purposes of this subsection, the word “teacher” shall mean a person who works in a position that would make them eligible to be a member of the teachers’ retirement system if their position were performed in a public school.”
