Amendment #14 to S2581

Aligning Device Policies with Instructional Time

Mr. Sweezey of Duxbury moves to amend the bill by striking, in section 1, in lines 13 to 18, inclusive, the definition of “School day” and inserting in place thereof the following definition:

“‘Instructional time’, time during which a student is engaged in a structured learning environment under the supervision of a teacher or school staff member, beginning with the first scheduled instructional period and ending with the last scheduled instructional period; provided, however, that instructional time shall not include lunch periods, passing time between classes, recess or other unstructured breaks.”

and moves to further amend the bill by striking, in section 1, in lines 19 to 22, inclusive, the definition of “School-sponsored activity” in inserting in place thereof the following definition:

“‘School-sponsored activity’, an activity, on or off school grounds, that takes place during instructional time; provided, that a district shall determine whether a specific category of activity shall be a school-sponsored activity; and provided further, that “school-sponsored activity” shall not include activities held after dismissal of students from the last class of the day.”

and moves to further amend the bill by striking, in line 218, the words “School day” and inserting in place thereof the words “Instructional time”

and moves to further amend the bill by striking out the words “the school day”, each time they appear, and inserting in place thereof the words “instructional time”.
