SWM Amendment

Mr. Rodrigues moves that the proposed new draft be amended In section 1, by striking out, in lines 11 to 16, inclusive, the words “No challenged material selected for inclusion in a school library collection pursuant to subsection (a) shall be removed except upon a determination and vote by the school committee following notice, a public hearing and a finding by a review committee of school personnel, appointed by the school committee and the superintendent, that the material is devoid of any educational, literary, artistic, personal or social value or is not age appropriate for any child who attends the school.” and inserting in place thereof the following words:-

“No challenged material selected for inclusion in a school library collection pursuant to subsection (a) shall be removed except upon a determination and vote by the school committee or board of trustees of a charter school following: (i) notice; (ii) a public hearing; and (iii) a finding by a review committee of school personnel, appointed by: (a) the school superintendent, in consultation with the school committee; or (b) in the case of a charter school, the board of trustees, that the material is devoid of any educational, literary, artistic, personal or social value or is not age appropriate for any child who attends the school.”; and

In said section 1, by inserting after the word “committee”, in line 17, the following words:- “or board of trustees of a charter school”; and

In said section 1, by inserting after the word “committee”, in line 33, the following words:- “or board of trustees of a charter school”; and

In section 15A, as inserted by amendment 1, by striking out the words “residing in the city or town or residing in a different city or town which is part of the same regional library system pursuant to an approved plan under section 19C” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “who is a resident of the city or town”.
