Ensuring High-Quality Instruction to Meet the Needs of Every Learner
Ms. Jehlen, Messrs. Mark and Collins, Ms. Edwards and Messrs. Payano and O'Connor move that the proposed new text be amended in section 3, line 36, by inserting after the word “instruction”,” the following words:- “reading instruction that includes, but shall not be limited to,”;
By striking in section 3, line 39, the words “reviewed and approved by the department” and inserting in place thereof the following:- “that aligns with evidence-based literacy instruction and the five research-based areas in reading instruction”;
By inserting in section 3, in line 43, after the word “instruction” the following :- “; and (iii) allows educators to use their professional judgment to adapt instructional materials to differentiate instruction in order to meet the individual needs of students. Districts shall annually report to the department on the curricula they have selected to meet the curriculum frameworks for kindergarten through grade 3 literacy, including how it meets the definition of high-quality curriculum”;
By striking subsection (c) in section 3; and
by striking section 16.
