Public Safety Identification for Higher Education Police Officers and other State Officers

Mr. Moore moves that the proposed new text be amended by inserting after section __ the following sections:-

SECTION __. Section 22 of Chapter 15A of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding after the fifth sentence the following sentences:-

“The secretary of public safety and security may adopt regulations relative to the form, content, issuance and carrying of identification cards by such officers. Such identification card shall be carried on the officer's person and shall be exhibited upon lawful request for purposes of identification.”

SECTION __. Section 10D of Chapter 21A, as so appearing, is hereby amended by adding after the first paragraph the following paragraph:-

“The secretary of public safety and security may adopt regulations relative to the form, content, issuance and carrying of identification cards by such officers. Such identification card shall be carried on the officer's person and shall be exhibited upon lawful request for purposes of identification.”

SECTION __. Section 58 of Chapter 22C of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting the following paragraph:-

“The secretary of public safety and security may adopt regulations relative to the form, content, issuance and carrying of identification cards by such officers. Such identification card shall be carried on the officer's person and shall be exhibited upon lawful request for purposes of identification.”

SECTION __. Section 63 of Chapter 22C of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding at the end of the first paragraph the following paragraph:-

“The secretary of public safety and security may adopt regulations relative to the form, content, issuance and carrying of identification cards by such officers. Such identification card shall be carried on the officer's person and shall be exhibited upon lawful request for purposes of identification.”

SECTION __. Section 32A of Chapter 75 of the General Laws, as so appearing, is hereby amended by inserting after the second paragraph the following paragraph:-

“The secretary of public safety and security may adopt regulations relative to the form, content, issuance and carrying of identification cards by such officers. Such identification card shall be carried on the officer's person and shall be exhibited upon lawful request for purposes of identification.”
