Funding for PFAS Free Firefighter Gear

Messrs. Moore, Mark, Cyr, Lewis, Durant and Keenan, Ms. Kennedy, Mr. Collins, Ms. Edwards, Messrs. Brady, Fernandes, Oliveira and Driscoll, Mrs. Dooner, Messrs. Finegold and Rush, Ms. Miranda, Ms. Howard, Messrs. Gómez, Payano and Cronin, Ms. Jehlen, Messrs. Feeney, Tarr, Eldridge, Montigny and O'Connor, Ms. Creem, Mr. Fattman, Ms. Comerford, Ms. Lovely and Mr. DiDomenico move that the proposed new draft be amended in section 2F, by inserting, after item 1100-2524, the following item:-

8324-0102 For a grant program to support the development, testing and purchase of per- and polyfluoroalkyl –substance-free firefighter turnout gear that meets or exceeds the standards established in section 245 of chapter 111 of the General Laws; provided, that funds may be used to support the development and testing of new materials and designs for turnout gear that reduce the inherent firefighting dangers including, but not limited to, enhanced protection against primary and secondary exposure to particulates and byproducts of combustion and reduced maintenance that includes contamination resistance and greater ease of cleaning for any new technical fabrics or designs; provided further, that funds may be used for the disposal of turnout gear which contains per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances but is no longer in use; and provided further, that the department of fire services may reimburse cities and towns that have previously expended public funds on the purchase of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance-free firefighter gear that meets or exceeds the requirements of said section 245 of said chapter 111 …………………..$25,000,000
