Safe Drinking Water Act

Ms. Lovely, Ms. Jehlen and Mr. Eldridge move that the proposed new draft be amended by inserting after item 2200-7029 the following new item: -

 2200-7030 For a grant program to be administered by the department of environmental protection, in consultation with the executive office of education, to support access to clean drinking water in commonwealth public schools including, but not limited to, regional vocational or county agricultural school districts, independent vocational schools and collaboratives, and child care centers as defined in section 1A of chapter 15D of the General Laws; provided, that funds may be used for improvements to the drinking water infrastructure in schools and child care centers to remediate for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, lead and other contaminants, including, but not limited to, the removal of existing drinking water outlets from operations and the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of filtered water stations and filtered faucets for drinking water outlets; provided further, that filtered water station sand faucets shall be certified to meet NSF/ANSI standard 42 for particulate removal and NSF/ANSI standard 53 for lead at all water outlets intended for human consumption at a rate of at least one per one hundred occupants; and provided further, that the department may prioritize awarding funds to school districts or child care centers in low income or environmental justice communities……………………………..$15,000,000
