Methuen Arlington Neighborhood Sewer Separation and Clean Water Infrastructure
Representatives Reyes of Lawrence, Paulino of Methuen, Hamilton of Methuen and Moran of Lawrence move to amend the bill in section 2E, in item 0640-1008, by inserting after “per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination remediation” the following: "; provided further, that not less than $35,000,000 shall be expended for the City of Methuen for the planning, design, engineering, permitting, construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, separation, and modernization of combined sewer and stormwater systems, including but not limited to the Arlington Neighborhood Sewer Separation Project and associated phases and related infrastructure improvements, undertaken jointly or cooperatively with the City of Lawrence, in order to reduce combined sewer overflows, improve water quality in the Merrimack River watershed, protect public health, support flood mitigation, and ensure compliance with state and federal clean water requirements; provided further, that such funds may be used for sewer and storm drain separation, construction of new stormwater outfalls, replacement of associated water mains, hydrants, and service connections, complete surface restoration, roadway and utility restoration, and related infrastructure improvements; and provided further, that priority shall be given to projects that eliminate direct stormwater inflows into the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District system”
