Amendment #49 to S3141

Encouraging Healthcare Screenings

Mr. Chan of Quincy moves to amend the bill by inserting the following sections:-

"SECTION __. Section 1 of Chapter 176J of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, after the word “plans” in line 206, by striking the period following the word “plans” in line 206 and inserting in place there of the following words:- “; provided, however, that accident only, hospital indemnity insurance policies, disability income insurance, and specified disease insurance as defined herein, may also offer “health screening benefits”, as defined in this Section One.”

SECTION __. Section 1 of Chapter 176J of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following definition:- “Health Screening Benefits”, health screening tests performed as a result of preventive care, including tests and diagnostic procedures, such as annual preventive care and health screening, including laboratory services, x-ray services and similar services, ordered in connection with routine examinations.

Section 1 of Chapter 176M of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking the period following the words “chapter 176K” in line 218 and inserting in place thereof the following words:- “; provided, however, that accident only, hospital indemnity insurance policies, disability income insurance, and specified disease insurance as defined herein, may also offer “health screening benefits”, as defined in this Section One”.

Section 1 of Chapter 176M of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following definition:- “Health Screening Benefits”, health screening tests performed as a result of preventive care, including tests and diagnostic procedures, such as annual preventive care and health screening, including laboratory services, x-ray services and similar services, ordered in connection with routine examinations.

SECTION __. Section 1 of Chapter 176N of the General Laws as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking the period following words “Chapter 176K” in line 42 and inserting in place thereof the following words:-“; provided, further, however, that accident only, hospital indemnity insurance policies, disability income insurance, and specified disease insurance as defined herein, may also offer “health screening benefits”, as defined in this Section One”.

Section 1 of Chapter 176N, as so appearing, as appearing in the 2024 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting the following definition: “Health Screening Benefits”, health screening tests performed as a result of preventive care, including tests and diagnostic procedures, such as annual preventive care and health screening, including laboratory services, x-ray services and similar services, ordered in connection with routine examinations."
