AN ACT ESTABLISHING THREE YEAR TERMS FOR SELECTMEN IN THE TOWN OF MILTON.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
SECTION 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or
special law to the contrary, at the first town election following the
acceptance of this act the registered voters of the town of Milton shall
elect three selectmen. The person receiving the highest number of votes
for said office shall be elected for a three year term, the person
receiving the second highest number of votes for said office shall be
elected for a two year term and the person receiving the third highest
number of votes for such office shall be elected for a one year term. At
each annual town election thereafter the registered voters of said town
shall elect one selectman for a term of three years.
SECTION 2. This act shall be submitted for acceptance to the
voters of the town of Milton at the town election to be held in the
year nineteen hundred and eighty-seven in the form of the following
question which shall be placed upon the official ballot to be used for the
election of town officers at said election:- "Shall An Act passed by the
general court in the year nineteen hundred and eighty-six, entitled 'An Act
Establishing Three-year Terms for Selectmen in the Town of Milton', be
accepted " If a majority of the votes cast in answer to said question is
in the affirmative, this act shall thereupon take full effect, but not otherwise.
