AN ACT AUTHORIZING CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS TO SOLICIT DONATIONS ON PUBLIC WAYS.
Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would
tend to defeat its purpose, which is to
immediately authorize charitable organizations to solicit donations on public ways,
therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law,
necessary for the immediate preservation of the
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
Section 17A of chapter 85 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 1988
Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:-
Notwithstanding the provisions of the first sentence of this section, on
any city or town way which is not under jurisdiction of the department, the
chief of police of a city or town may issue a permit to nonprofit
organizations to solicit on said ways in conformity with the rules and
regulations established by the police department of said city or town.
