AN ACT RELATIVE TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE TOWN OF NANTUCKET.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
SECTION 1. Section one of chapter three hundred and eighty-eight of
the acts of nineteen hundred and thirteen is hereby repealed.
SECTION 2. There shall be a fire department established in the town
of Nantucket under the direction of the board of selectmen, who shall appoint a
chief of the fire department. The chief shall have a three year term of
office, which may be renewed for succeeding three year terms.
SECTION 3. The board of selectmen may make suitable regulations
governing the fire department and the officers and firefighters thereof after
consideration of the recommendations of the chief, and may remove the
chief at any time for cause and after a hearing. The chief shall be in
immediate control of all town property used by the department, and of the
officers and firemen, who shall obey his orders.
SECTION 4. So much of any act as is inconsistent herewith shall not
apply to the town of Nantucket and shall not have any force and effect.
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
