AN ACT INCREASING THE NUMBER OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE SPRINGFIELD BOARD OF WATER COMMISSIONERS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
SECTION 1. Chapter 30 of the acts of 1880 is hereby amended by
striking out section 2 and inserting in place thereof the following section:-
Section 2. There shall be four water
commissioners in the city of Springfield, who, with the mayor as an ex
officio member, shall
the board of water commissioners of said city, with all the
rights, powers and duties vested in and exercised by the board of water
commissioners. Each member shall be appointed by the mayor for a term of two
years and until his successor is appointed and the board shall consist of at
least two persons who are lay persons and all shall be residents of said city.
The mayor shall appoint annually one of the board members to serve as
chairperson. The members of the board shall receive no compensation. In case
any person so appointed shall die, resign, or become disqualified during his
term of office, the mayor shall fill the vacancy for the unexpired term only;
provided, however, that no member of the city council shall be eligible to be
appointed as a water commissioner.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
