Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives
in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same,
SECTION 1. The office of treasurer-collector of the town of Seekonk is hereby established. Said treasurer-collector shall be appointed by the board of selectmen of said town on the recommendation of the director of finance and shall report directly to said director.
SECTION 2. The first paragraph of section 4 of article 3 of the charter of the town of Seekonk, which is on file in the office of the archivist of the commonwealth, as provided in section twelve of chapter forty-three B of the General Laws, is hereby amended by adding the following clause:-
SECTION 3. Section 1 of article 4 of said charter is hereby amended by striking out clauses (c) and (d).
SECTION 4. Upon the appointment and qualifications of the treasurer-collector, the terms of office of the persons holding said offices of treasurer and collector shall terminate.
SECTION 5. This act shall be submitted to the voters of the town of Seekonk at an annual or special town election in the form of the following question which shall be placed on the official ballot: "Shall an act passed by the general court in the year nineteen hundred and ninety-three entitled 'An Act providing for the appointment of a treasurer-collector in the town of Seekonk' be accepted "
If a majority of the votes cast in answer to said question is in the affirmative, said act shall take full effect as of July first, nineteen hundred and ninety-four, but not otherwise.
