A public school or district may opt out of the requirement to adopt a policy prohibiting student use of personal electronic devices during the school day. The decision to opt out shall be made by a majority vote of the school committee, board, or other governing body of the school or district. A vote to opt out shall be filed with the department of elementary and secondary education and posted publicly on the school or district website no later than September 1 of the school year for which the opt-out is intended to apply. A public school or district that has opted out may later adopt a personal electronic device policy consistent with the requirements of this act by vote of its governing body.\r\n"}
