AN ACT AUTHORIZING CERTAIN PHARMACY INTERNS TO ADMINISTER IMMUNIZATIONS

        Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows:
        Chapter 112 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting, after section 24F the following section:-
        Section 24G. A pharmacy intern may engage in the full range of activities conducted by a registered pharmacist; provided, that the intern shall remain under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist preceptor at all times. 
        A pharmacy intern may administer immunizations as designated by the department of public health; provided, that the intern shall complete an immunization training program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, prior to administering an immunization; and provided further, that the intern shall remain under the direct supervision of a pharmacist who has met all board qualifications to administer immunizations.
        For the purposes of this section, “pharmacy intern” shall mean an individual who: (i) has completed 2 years of an academic curriculum or who has standing as a student beyond the second-year class in the undergraduate academic sequence of an approved college or school of pharmacy; and (ii) is registered by the board to acquire the practical experience, which is a prerequisite to examination for personal registration as a pharmacist, under the direction of a board-approved registered pharmacist.
