Too often, employer retaliation or threats prevent workers injured on the job from reporting their injuries, receiving medical care, or filing workers’ compensation claims. All workers can be affected by this type of employer misconduct, but now immigrant workers are especially vulnerable when unscrupulous employers threaten to report them to ICE or untruthfully accuse them of a crime. The current anti-retaliation provision of the workers’ comp law is weak and ineffective. This bill strengthens the law to ensure that injured workers are aware of their rights and protected against retaliation.
