Referred to Joint Committee on Labor and Workforce Development

This bill mandates that Massachusetts employers implement written programs and specific measures to protect employees from heat and cold-related illnesses when temperature thresholds are met by expanding the Occupational Safety and Health Act requirement for employers to provide a workplace free of known safety and health hazards to include protecting workers from temperature-related hazards explicitly. These measures include providing access to water, rest breaks in cool or warm areas, medical monitoring, and training, with additional requirements during extreme heat or cold waves, and also includes provisions for recordkeeping and anti-retaliation measures against workers.
