This legislation prohibits food and retail establishments, starting August 1, 2027, from providing food to customers in disposable containers made from polystyrene. If this provision would cause undue hardship for a food establishment, it can appeal to its town’s health department. The health department may then defer enforcement of this provision for that food establishment for one year. The commissioner of the Department of Public Health will promulgate regulations related to the enforcement of this section.
