Safe medication administration

In an effort to cut costs, the state of Massachusetts, and other private sector healthcare providers have attempted to implement programs that allow unlicensed, inadequately trained staff to administer a variety of medications in certain healthcare settings that should only be administered by registered nurses or other licensed staff. State regulations currently prohibit the practice in all but long-term care facilities. However, that could be changed at any time if the regulations are revised. This bill would prevent that by reflecting current regulatory language in the Massachusetts General Laws.
