Bill S.2018 194th (Current)

An Act relative to senior property tax deferral

By Ms. Jehlen, a petition (accompanied by bill, Senate, No. 2018) of Patricia D. Jehlen for legislation relative to senior property tax deferral. Revenue.

Bill Information

Presenter:
Patricia D. Jehlen
This legislation expands the existing senior property tax deferral program. The legislation would eliminate the 10-year Massachusetts residency and 5-year occupancy requirements for the program. It also makes the income requirements for the program the same as the requirements for the Senior Circuit Breaker. The interest rate would be tied to the current bonding rate of the municipality, or of the Commonwealth if the municipality has not bonded recently. It also delays the accrual of interest until 1 year after death, to allow time for the property to be sold.
